TRASH

December 5, 2023Mooch · Review provided by lowes.com1/5

Installed this water heater, had to upgrade my electric system by adding a subpanel not AO Smith’s fault but after installing the water heater and turning it on for the first time it immediately started displaying an error code. I referenced the code in the owner’s manual, it was for an over temperature of one of the heating elements. I called customers service tech hotline and they said that it was probably a faulty sensor and charged me shipping to mail a new one. I replaced it and it still displayed the code. Called back and they asked what temperature I had it set too, I told them the max 150*. They said that the sensor can be triggered if you have the temperature set too high and that I should turn it down. I set it to 120* still displays same fault. This was all right out of the box mind you. It still worked with the over temperature fault, and they did not offer any further solutions to the issue. Fast forward two years and nine months later I notice a wet calcium stain developing on the plywood backer board I mounted it too. Its dripping a drop of water from somewhere on the heater element housing about one drop every ten seconds or so, not a significant leak but since it shouldn’t be leaking at all its significant. I have had numerous issues with AO smith products and I am just done with their garbage. I could try and battle them over the warranty but I’m sick of their inferior products. I have bought an AO Smith tanked water heater that failed prematurely, a whole house carbon water filter that started to leak at one year and two months. and a water softener system that failed after two weeks and again at fourteen months. Needless to say, I will not purchase another AO Smith product EVER again and vow to sing to the heavens to anyone who will listen about the inferiority of AO Smith products. I am sure they will reply to my review about how sorry they are that I had problems and to contact them but that won’t be necessary because I won’t be using their products any longer, EVER! They got all the money they will get from me… If you’re curious why I continued to buy their products after my first few issues, Lowes in my area only carries AO Smith’s inferior products.
