[Incentivized Review] If you have a long from your water heater to your point of use, this tankless unit will help you ...
October 21, 2019 — DIYguy · Review provided by homedepot.com — 5/5If you have a long from your water heater to your point of use, this tankless unit will help you conserve water and save electricity. If you're planning a kitchen or bath renovation, do yourself a favor and plan for incorporating this little heater. Whether you have a gas or electric, traditional or tankless water heater in your house, if you have a long run to a faucet, you'll be wasting water and gas or electricity running out the gallon or so of ambient temperature water in your hot water supply pipe waiting for that hot water to reach you. This point of use water heater fixes that problem. It doesn't replace your household water heater, but it supplements it nicely. Installation is fairly simple, but there are a few things you need to be sure of FIRST: 1. Make SURE you have the proper power available in the area you want to put this unit. You will need 240v on a two post 30A circuit breaker. This is what you would need for a big mircowave oven or clothes dryer. If that isn't available, you will have to run a line to where you need it (I recommend having an electrician give you an estimate for this if you aren't comfortable with electricity). 2. Make sure you have room under the sink you want to use this at to not only mount the unit, but to run the power and plumbing. These two things are easiest if you're planning a renovation as you can lay in the wiring and plumbing needed more easily, but a retro fit isn't any harder than changing out a garbage disposal. I like the low profile design and big easy to read green LED panel that shows the unit's temperature setting. Operation is simple, turn on the unit with the power and set the desired temperature using the buttons on the front of they unit and forget about it. The unit turns on automatically when you run water through the unit and shuts off when the flow stops. The only CON I have is that installing as a retrofit is difficult only because you're working in the tight quarters in a cabinet under a sink.
