[Incentivized Review] Great water heater. Easy DIY install.

February 6, 2025Ryan · Review provided by lowes.com5/5

I DIY'd the installation of this replacing a failing old Rheem Tankless and while it took some time, it was relatively straight forward. It required a few investments in PEX-A tools and a few YouTube videos (The Rinnai Guy was awesome). 1) The documentation is amazing. I read through the documentation extensively before I started and it prepared me for virtually everything. 2) Once all the physical connections were made, the setup was fast and straight forward through the app. 3) I had one small issue with low pressure , but followed troubleshooting guides for clearing the air in the re-circulation return line. 4) Really good attention to physical install. It's light enough that I was able to get it on the wall myself with the mounting bracket. And I loved how easy it was to separate it from the box. I also added the Wireless Module which took 2 minutes. Versus our old 9 year old Rheem... the water pressure is massively better for showers and the heat is so much more consistent. The only drawback is the "smart" re-circulation on the internal pump means it can take 10-15 seconds for hot water depending on how far it is from the Heater. We used to have an external pump that constantly did recirculated the water and it was always instant on. It's started to figure out some of our usage patterns over the first week. Like I usually shower between 8:15 - 8:30, it recycles around then. The App with the Wireless Module lets us do On-Demand Cycle before a shower or something. I do plan to add a few of the wireless buttons to help with this, and I'm looking into automating things with my home automation platform for bigger appliances like Laundry + Dish washers to re-circ when they start based on energy draw. If the delay is a deal breaker, I'd advise you get the RX (not RXP model) and install an external re-circulation pump that is always on. It will be more expensive to operate, but it will always have hot water on
