We installed it in our garage vs on the outside of the house. It is located on the wall right where our old tank water heater used to sit. They did have to drill through the base of the garage for a condensation outlet. I was not prepared for the installers to drill through the base of the garage but it turned out fine. I would highly recommend the Rinnai tankless hot water heater to any one. I was surprised when the power went out the whole unit/schedule had to be reset to get the recirculation going again. The unit should have some level of minor backup battery to manage the system settings when the power goes out
